Methods & Data
Method. The constant-maturity par yields the U.S. Treasury published on the date shown, for every tenor it published that day, from 2 January 1962 to the newest publication day. The points are the ones the site's other Treasury-curve calculations read, from the same source: the 1-, 3- and 6-month and 1- to 30-year points via FRED (DGS1MO to DGS30), the 1.5-, 2- and 4-month points from Treasury's own par-yield file (UST6WK, UST2MO, UST4MO), and the newest days loaded the same day from the Treasury ahead of FRED. A tenor with no print that day does not plot: nothing is interpolated or carried forward. The Time-step selector sets the stride of the slider and the player: Daily is every publication day; Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly and Annually show the last publication day of each ISO week, month, quarter or year, which is a period-end value and never an average. The recession badge follows NBER peak to trough months. The Series chiclet shows or hides the nominal and TIPS real curves for display only (TIPS real constant-maturity yields: DFII5, DFII7 and DFII10 from 2003, DFII20 from July 2004, DFII30 from February 2010). The y axis fits the curves shown on the date; while Play runs it holds one scale for the span it plays, so only the curve moves as the date does.
Sources and history. Treasury constant-maturity yields begin 1962, and this tool uses no earlier or non-Treasury source for the curve: a date before 2 January 1962 has no curve to show. Tenors as published: the 1-, 3-, 5-, 10- and 20-year from 1962; the 7-year from 1969; the 2-year from 1976; the 30-year from 1977; the 3- and 6-month from 1981; the 1-month from 2001; the 2-month from 2018; the 4-month from 2022; the 1.5-month (6-week) from 2025. The 20-year has no prints from January 1987 through September 1993. The Treasury did not publish a 30-year constant-maturity yield from February 18, 2002 until February 9, 2006; FRED carries stand-in values for those days, and this tool leaves them out, so the curve has no 30-year point on those dates, the way it has no 20-year point from 1987 to 1993.
Save video. The animation over the chosen span and step is drawn frame by frame in your browser and saved as an animated GIF or a video file; nothing is uploaded. At most 240 steps are saved: a longer span is thinned evenly and the file says so on screen before it downloads.
